Luis Colón, Associate Dean for Graduate and Postdoctoral Education, recently received the 2016 Award for Encouraging Disadvantaged Students into Careers in the Chemical Sciences from the American Chemical Society (ACS).
This honor marks the second time this year that Dr. Colón has won a mentoring award. Dr. Colón was named by President Barack Obama as a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring in April 2015. Dr. Colón’s strong commitment to mentoring has led him to advise 27 PhD students, 14 Master’s students and more than 35 undergraduates. Many of his advisees are from underrepresented groups.
